Torquay Jan Juc 2040 presents a new way of linking future land use with the community's aspirations for its future. The project is designed to develop a growth management plan for Torquay-Jan Juc aimed at fostering a liveable, cohesive, connected community enjoying quality of life now and ensuring protection of these elements for future generations.
Surf Coast Shire is working in partnership with the State Government on this project.
The plan will be underpinned by guiding principles that balance environmental, social and economic issues. The plan will define a settlement boundary, outline likely population levels, potential locations for growth and services/infrastructure needed to support that population.
The first phase of consultation is now complete. This has led to the development of values/principles and three potential scenarios of growth Torquay Jan Juc. These have been developed after research and community engagement including listening posts, surveys, workshops, a walk the beat and online forum. Many thanks to over 300 individuals who have contributed so far.
Generally people understand that the population of Torquay Jan Juc is likely to grow over time and consider it vital to plan and manage this growth. Though there are some who told us they would prefer no growth at all, through robust dicussion we have been able to distil a set of core values/principles that will guide growth into the future. These values have helped to inform three possible scenarios for growth.
We are now inviting you to have your say on these values and scenarios. Input from this second phase of consultation will guide the future growth managmeent plan.
